In episode five the discussion turns to James Cameron’s 16 year pet project Alita: Battle Angel {arguments can be made that James Cameron already tried to make this with his tv series Dark Angel, but that’s a discussion for another time} an adaptation of the 90s manga series Battle Angel Alita, (or if you prefer the Japanese title Gunnm) and its subsequent video games and OVAs. A beautiful, intriguing film that adapted its source material much better than previous western adaptations of manga and anime series, and where all the promotional images of characters looked like hot garbage.
The discussion sparked this time around ended up being predominantly about societal aspirations surrounding the literal tiered world the story takes place in and how quickly things can become the new normal.
